Engagement bomboniere are a sweet way to thank family and friends for celebrating the start of your journey together. After all, an engagement party is often the first time both families come together, and a small keepsake to take home makes the day feel even more special.
At Sugared Almond Boutique, we have helped couples across Australia create engagement favours for years. Whether you would like us to make them for you or you prefer to put them together yourself, you will find everything you need here.
Why sugared almonds for an engagement?
In Italian tradition, sugared almonds, known as confetti, are given at every important milestone, and an engagement is no exception. The almond represents the bitter and sweet sides of life, while the sugar coating carries the wish that married life will be more sweet than bitter.
Traditionally, five sugared almonds are given in each favour, one for each wish for the couple:
- Health
- Wealth
- Happiness
- Fertility
- Long life
For this reason, many couples choose sugared almonds for their engagement party, then carry the same colours and flavours through to their wedding bomboniere.
Green, the traditional colour for an engagement
In Italy, every celebration has its own colour of confetti, and for an engagement that colour is green. Green stands for hope and the wish for a lasting love. It also represents a young love that will grow and blossom into marriage.
Green sugared almonds are often paired with white, which links the engagement to the wedding still to come and looks striking on the table. Our 4 Shades of Green Sugared Almonds make this look easy, or you can mix a single shade of green with our traditional white sugared almonds. For a softer, modern take on green, our Sage Green Choc Hazelnut Balls sit beautifully alongside white sugared almonds, or pair them with our Ivory Hazelnut Centre Chocolate Balls for a soft green and ivory mix.

Engagement bomboniere styles
Choose a style to suit your party, your table and your budget:
- Gold Ring Bomboniere – five sugared almonds wrapped in white organza, set in a gold ring and finished with a ribbon and personalised tag. A fitting nod to the ring itself.

- Ivory Slimline Organza Pouch – five sugared almonds in a slim ivory or white pouch, simple and classic.

- Personalised Acrylic Box – a clear acrylic box personalised with your initials and tied with a satin bow in your colour. It comes in three sizes:
- Small (4.5 x 4.5cm) holds 5 sugared almonds
- Medium (5.5 x 5.5cm) holds 12 sugared almonds
- Large (6.5 x 6.5cm) holds 24 sugared almonds

- Net Organza Drawstring Squares – pre-assembled squares for couples making their own favours. Simply add your sugared almonds and tie them closed.

Colours and flavours for your engagement party
Beyond traditional green and white, many couples also match their engagement bomboniere to the colours of the invitations, the flowers or the cake. Our coloured sugared almonds range from soft pink and sage to deep navy, while our metallic sugared almonds in gold, silver and rose gold add a touch of shine.
For something a little different, our flavoured sugared almonds have a crisp white shell with a surprise centre, from salted caramel to pistachio. Alternatively, our traditional sugared almonds keep things classic.

How many sugared almonds do you need?
Allow five sugared almonds per bomboniere. Our 1 kilogram boxes of flavoured sugared almonds contain approximately 160 pieces, which is enough for around 32 favours. However, piece counts vary across our range, so check the product page for the number in your chosen box.
To work out how many you need, multiply your guest number by five, divide by the number of pieces in your box, and round up. It is also a good idea to allow a few extra for last-minute guests.
